What is Value-Based Purchasing?

Value-Based Purchasing is broadly defined as “a range of activities in which public and private purchasers engage to influence the behavior of consumers, health plans, and health care providers, so as to achieve greater value in health care.”

Emphasis is placed on understanding the quality component of value because quality ultimately costs less.
