HealthCare 21 Business Coalition has increased the quality and value of health care within its regions.
The following are examples from our rich history:
- VAP (Ventilator Associated Pneumonia) – Reduced the number of VAP cases in hospitals.
- Rapid Response Team – Part of a national initiative that increased response time for emergency cases within hospitals.
- Leapfrog – HC21 introduced hospitals to national standards (called Leapfrog), which increases patient safety.
- eValue8 – HC21, along with its sister TN coalition, the Memphis Business Group on Health, has used the nationally recognized tool ‘eValue8’ to encourage health plans to improve their quality processes.
- PBM – Through a Pharmacy Benefit Management program, HC21 introduced more competitive Rx pricing to TN resulting in millions of dollars saved on drug costs.
- CVBP – Through the College for Value-Based Purchasing, HC21, along with its two partners, Thomas Jefferson University and the National Business Coalition on Health, has trained over 300 buyers and suppliers in the principles of value-based purchasing of health benefits.
- Data Cooperative – HC21 has developed one of the nation’s most unique data warehouses to improve the treatment of chronic disease. The Data Cooperative represents $2 billion in health care spending.
- Annual Forum – For twelve years HC21 has hosted a multi-stakeholder conference (the largest of its kind in TN) to discuss quality improvement and value enhancement in health benefits.
- Local Media – HC21 has educated the local media about local and national initiatives to increase the quality and value of health care.
- Research – HC21 is a leader in researching and disseminating the ‘best practices’ in health care and health benefits such as its work on health risk assessments, onsite clinics, care gaps, and evidenced based medicine.
- Consumer Guide – HC21 annually produces and distributes a free guide to consumers on key health improvement topics. This guide is distributed to over 50,000 people and is available in public libraries across the state.
- Dialogue – HC21 hosts multiple meetings per year in major metropolitan areas across Tennessee, increasing the discussion among health care stakeholders with the purpose of improving health care and health benefits for the citizens of Tennessee.
- Small Business Health Benefit Program – HC21 works with small businesses in Tennessee, helping them to adopt value-based purchasing principles in the health benefit offered to their employees.
- Health Care Reform- HC21 played an instrumental role in health care reform by supporting the principles of performance measurement, payment reform, provider transparency and informed consumerism. Through national partnerships, HC21 provided input to policy policy makers on these principles. HC21 also initiated education for our community and state.
- State Health Plan- HC21 has contributed input for the 2010 edition of the State Health Plan. The State Health Plan seeks to establish Five Key Principles for Achieving Better Health.
- Tobacco Cessation- As part of our commitment to health care improvement, HC21 has been actively involved in coordinating resources and tools to improve tobacco cessation rates in East and Middle Tennessee. In 2007, HC21 developed a community resource listing published on our website with information on smoking cessation classes, interactive websites and quit lines as well as access to fact sheets, brochures and reports. Beginning in 2010, HC21 will offer a community tobacco cessation initiative to employer members. The Implementing a Value Based Benefit Design Smoking Program is designed to determine the most effective ways to engage employees in smoking cessation.
