Pharmacy Benefit Management

HealthCare 21 endorsed Walgreens Health Initiatives (WHI) as its pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) in July 2002.  Subsequently, several other coalitions throughout the United States joined this marketing effort, extending deep discounts, rich rebate returns and low fees to member companies eager to take advantage of this transparent contract.  Since then the PBM program has grown to include 8 coalitions, over 60 companies, and over 130,000 covered lives.  HealthCare 21 members enjoy contract savings and rebate returns that more than cover our membership dues.

The results are based on analyses of the most recent available data provided by each company.  Compiled by HealthCare 21 Business Coalition.

The endorsed PBM offers HealthCare 21 members competitive pricing, exceptional customer service, a mail order program, strong reporting capabilities and excellent clinical programs that can extend the contract savings through effective management of Rx. Results from data analysis surveys have consistently shown savings with the endorsed PBM from 8-12% on the overall price of the pharmacy program, depending on the structure of the company’s current PBM program.
