LEAPFROG GROUP EXPANDS RATINGS INTO AMBULATORY AND OUTPATIENT SURGERY- Happening Spring 2019
HealthCare 21 Business Coalition (HC21) proudly serves as a Regional Leader for The Leapfrog Group, a purchaser-driven national movement to collect and publicly report on the safety and quality of hospital care in the United States. Annually, we ask hospitals in our area to voluntarily report data on their quality and safety, and we help use that data along with Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades to improve health care in our market.
We are pleased to say this week Leapfrog announced the first expansion of its public reporting beyond inpatient hospital care, to include outpatient procedures and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). In Spring 2019, Leapfrog will launch a new ASC survey and add a new section to the Leapfrog Hospital Survey on outpatient procedures. Providers will be permitted to report their own data voluntarily in 2019. In 2020, Leapfrog will report by hospital and by ASC on a free a public search tool.
These Surveys will gather data on standardized, evidence-based metrics - such as basic facility information, medical and nursing staff, procedure volume and outcomes, patient safety practices and experiences - giving purchasers and consumers in our community and nationally the ability to compare health care quality across settings.
Why is The Leapfrog Group doing this? Although the majority of surgeries in the U.S. are being performed in outpatient or ambulatory settings--often with less invasive techniques and competitive pricing-- there is remarkably little independently verified data on the safety and quality of this care.
Purchasers and consumers need to know the quality of care-because good value means both a good price and good quality.
